Mobile Handset Imports Up 58% in Q1 FY 2012 Posted: 31 Oct 2011 11:20 PM PDT The imports of mobile handset witnessed growth of 58 percent in the first quarter of the current fiscal year 2011-12 compared with corresponding period of previous fiscal year, reflecting high domestic demands of customers for multiple brands. According to the figures of Federal Bureau of Statistics (FBS), the expenses of mobile handsets are on the rise as Rs 14.25 billion were spent on the imports of various brands. The mobile handsets imports were recorded Rs 8.9 billion in Jul-Sept 2010. As per estimates, the handset sales have increased to 0.125 million handsets on monthly basis having price range between Rs 1,000 to Rs 55,000. According to the dealers the mobile handsets market is changing its dynamics constantly in the past three months with number of global and local branded phones increasing their shares tremendously. They were of the view that Nokia Dual SIMs phones have gained tremendous popularity among the customers due to aggressive marketing of the company. Samsung, Qmobile and Club mobile also recorded handsome sales in the local markets. The demands of the branded sets were continuously increasing after the government had earlier announced to block all Chinese sets with double and no IMEI number, they said. The dealers are cautious to purchase unbranded mobile handsets on the fear that they would incur losses and action of authorities. However, Chinese handsets are not fully eliminated from local markets. The imports and sales of handsets have been surging significantly in the past couple of years on it high domestic demands in various parts of the country despite of the fact the high inflation and flash floods have added miseries of masses at large. Pakistan is considered as developing country where 24 percent of the population is living below the poverty line in accordance with government numbers and think tanks estimates. However masses' spend on mobile phones is increasing despite of all the factors that portray a vulnerable situation of the nation and country as well. Related posts:

Wateen Announces new WiMAX Packages Posted: 31 Oct 2011 11:04 PM PDT Wateen has announced it's new WiMAX packages – there are three in total actually to choose from. Along with WiMAX broadband there are telephony services as well, details are given below: Note:
So let's suppose if you go with 1 MB unlimited package, your charges will be:
Please visit Wateen franchise, or call helpline to know more. All packages come with Night unlimited option, i.e. pay 50 percent line rent to get true unlimited downloads between 1 AM to 11 AM
Update: In above post we had mentioned a volume limit of 100 GB on unlimited 1 and 2 Mbps packages, based on our communication with Wateen customer support in the morning (We have representative name and time of call available with us). Those who visited Wateen’s website (in the day) will agree with me that there was no mention of cap on 1 and 2 Mbps packages – instead it only noted that fair usage policy applies. However, Wateen website is now saying that there’s no data limit on unlimited 1 and 2 Mbps packages. Similarly, telephony services can be withdrawn as well, which was earlier not mentioned. It appears that Wateen was quick in changing mind – based on feedback you guys gave – and probably thought of removing the cap of 100GB from unlimited packages. Please note that we have contacted Wateen to officially tell us their stance. We will update this post when we get any response. Related posts:
